Miches Day Trip from Bavaro and Uvero Alto
Miches is the quiet fishing town on the Atlantic side of the eastern Dominican Republic, 75 minutes from Bavaro and Uvero Alto by paved road. It is the obvious base camp for Round Mountain and is starting to gain its own foodie reputation.

Why Miches deserves a day
Five years ago Miches was only a transit stop. Today it has small beach restaurants, a clean malecon walk and the new Tropicalia development at one end of Playa Esmeralda. The vibe is still local, not resort.

How to get there from Bavaro and Uvero Alto
The new Coral Highway extension cuts the drive to 75 minutes from Uvero Alto and 90 from central Bavaro. Most operators pick up at the resort entrance between 6 and 7 am.
If you base in Bavaro and want full day flexibility, hire a private driver for 130 to 160 USD for the day.
Where to eat in Miches
The classics are El Tropicalito on the seafront for whole fried fish and tostones, La Cocina de Yina for criollo plates inland and the food shacks at the Punta El Rey beach end for the cheapest ceviche.
All three sit inside the time window of the Round Mountain tour return from Punta Cana, so you can ask the driver to drop you and pick you up after lunch.
The other Miches highlights
Playa Esmeralda is 22 kilometres of empty palm fringed sand. Walkable, swimmable and almost always quiet. Lagunas Limon and Redonda inland offer kayak rentals with no infrastructure beyond a bench.
Jet ski rentals at El Cedro are licensed and respect the marine reserve rules.
Where to stay if you want to slow down
Tropicalia ZelBlanc is the resort option at the high end. Hotel Magdalena downtown is the local mid range. Casa Doraida is a guesthouse with a five room footprint.
Stay one night to catch Round Mountain at sunrise the next day with a 7 am local pickup, much easier than from Bavaro.
